After fishing several of the tournaments last year I have a couple of observations that I'd like to share with the other competitors. First of all, No Wake means No Wake. It doesn't matter if it's out in front of the docks or going up the river, trying to beat everyone else to a spot. A violator is risking getting a ticket, having an accident or giving the tournament a bad image. In the Invitational I saw 2 or 3 boats run the no wake buoys heading North, trying to beat each other to their spots. A couple of them were the same guys who drive around in front of the docks with the bow up plowing water. I'm not saying this as a complaint as to how the organizers did things. They did a good job running things and they can't be everywhere at once. We all have a responsibility to be ethical fishermen and not do something that reflects negatively on the tournaments.
My other issue is centered around some people not taking good care of their fish. We should all do everything we can to release our fish healthy after weigh in. If you bring in a limit of dead fish, try to weigh them and then dump them back in the water, you should be ashamed.
The fellows running this do a great job. They don't need to worry about stuff like this. Please keep this in mind and realize that we all have a responsibility to follow the rules and the laws. |

Thanks for the post Mike. It is definitely hard for us to monitor everything 100%. I am hoping this year will find everyone mch more familiar with each other and less likely to stretch the rules. This is intended to be a fun event and although it is competitive, it should be more fun than anything. I am looking forward to the 2008 season and please keep the posts coming on what you would like to see.
Thanks all. |

Mike,
I would really like to see myself win one of your events. Guess I have to get there and fish first. I'm going to try to make your opener this year. Right now, nothing is stopping me. _________________ Northeast Ohio Catfish Angler's Tournament Series

Hello Mwade There is abosolutely nothing they can do about people using excessive speeds in the no wake zones. If they choose do so so they run the risk of tickets and such. The directors have never been able to control this or ever will it just isnt possible. So if they take ur spot and u have a faster boat just beat them to it, its just that simple (OUTRUN THEM) Or just stop fishing cuz there will never be a resolution to this problem Ive been fishing tourneys for 20 yrs now and u just have to deal with it. On the other hand though bringing in a limit of dead fish or several fish is very uncalled for and if people bring in dead fish they should be DQ'd immediately cuz odds are they brought them in in a cage basket, which should also be forbidden. I wish they would make a rule of no baskets or stringers and ur fish have to be in a tub or bucket full of water so they can get realesed perfectly unharmed and healthy. So i do agree with u there. and i wish the tourney directors would to as well. But on the first topic dont worry about it nothing u can do, so dont even bother complaining. Take care and good luck this year... seeya the 5th??
